My name is Matt Harmon, and I'd like to welcome you to my website. Please browse my galleries and enjoy - you can use the links above to navigate - and don't forget to check back regularly!
I'd like to be able to say that I was born with a camera in my hand and was snapping away from day one... but the truth is that I've been photographing professionally for about ten years now. The short story is that, when I moved to Washington, DC, I was looking for a good picture of the Lincoln Memorial to hang in my apartment... and I couldn't find anything I liked. So, I picked up an old Nikon F that I inherited from my great uncle and started hacking around. About the same time, I met a freelance photographer named Marty Lueders who needed some help with his computer - I gave him a hand breaking into the world of digital photography, he taught me how to shoot. Shortly thereafter, I picked up my first digital body (Canon D30) and the rest is history.
My "day job" is running websites for the U.S. government - specifically, I'm responsible for the five primary websites for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), and I run the website for the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House. CNCS administers domestic volunteer programs and is the parent agency of AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and Serve America. They're also responsible for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and a number of other federal initiatives and grant programs.
I'm also the staff photographer for both CNCS and USA Freedom Corps - which is why there are some galleries and photographs on this site that aren't for sale. All images that I take for either CNCS or USA Freedom Corps are property of the U.S. government and, as such, are public domain. If you're with a Federal agency, or are pictured in one of the images that I've taken for either CNCS or USA Freedom Corps, please email me at work and I'd be more than happy to arrange a print for you!
Most of my other work is available for sale, either in print form or as licensed downloads. If you have questions, or wish to order an image or print that you don't see in the print gallery, please email me. Some of my photos are not - see above.
