A Bit About Myself

I'd like to be able to say that I was born with a camera in my hand and was snapping away from day one... but the truth is that I've been photographing professionally for about ten years now. The short story is that, when I moved to Washington, DC, I was looking for a good picture of the Lincoln Memorial to hang in my apartment... and I couldn't find anything I liked. So, I picked up an old Nikon F that I inherited from my great uncle and started hacking around. About the same time, I met a freelance photographer named Marty Lueders who needed some help with his computer - I gave him a hand breaking into the world of digital photography, he taught me how to shoot. Shortly thereafter, I picked up my first digital body (Canon D30) and the rest is history.

My "day job" is running websites for the U.S. government - specifically, I'm responsible for the six primary websites for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), including NationalService.gov, AmeriCorps.gov and Serve.gov. CNCS administers domestic volunteer programs and is the parent agency of AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and Serve America. They're also responsible for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and a number of other federal initiatives and grant programs. Fantastic agency - if you're looking to help your neighbor, community, or country... that's the place to go. Seriously - go to www.serve.gov right now and find something that interests you. :)

I'm also the staff photographer for CNCS - which is why there are some galleries and photographs on this site that aren't for sale. All images that I take for either CNCS are property of the U.S. government and, as such, are public domain. If you're with a Federal agency, or are pictured in one of the images that I've taken for CNCS, please email me at work and I'd be more than happy to arrange a print for you!
