My name is Matt Harmon, and I'd like to welcome you to my website. Please browse my galleries and enjoy - you can use the links above to navigate - and don't forget to check back regularly!
I've been living and photographing in the the Washington, DC area since 1997. Most of my photos are from the DC area... though I have been known to take a trip here and there or shoot a wedding or two. I tend to focus on things that don't move too fast - monuments, memorials, flags, etc. and I'm still trying to get that "perfect" shot of the Lincoln Memorial to hang in my office.
You might also notice from the photo above that I shoot Canon (although I do have two Nikon F bodies for special use). For those who are interested, I'm currently using a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 7D... lenses are mostly Canon "L" glass with the addition of a 70-300 DO and a few specialty lenses (fisheye, stereo, etc.) here and there from various makes. I also have a Canon 10D that I had converted to infrared a few years back - very cool effect if you're in to that sort of thing.
My "day job" is running websites for the U.S. government - specifically, I work on the six primary websites for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), including NationalService.gov, AmeriCorps.gov and Serve.gov. CNCS administers domestic volunteer programs and is the parent agency of AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and Serve America. They're also responsible for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and a number of other federal initiatives and grant programs. Fantastic agency - if you're looking to help your neighbor, community, or country... that's the place to go. Seriously - go to www.serve.gov right now and find something that interests you. :)
I also tend to take photos for my agency as well... so head over to http://photos.nationalservice.gov and take a peek. All images that I take for CNCS are property of the U.S. government and, as such, are public domain (a.k.a. free).
Most of the work featured on this website is available for sale, either in print form or as licensed downloads. If you have questions, or wish to order an image or print that you don't see in one of the galleries, please email me.
As I mentioned above, I have been known to shoot a limited number of weddings or special events each year. I use a photojournalistic style - capturing the moment instead of "staging" shots (unless necessary or requested). I also try to stay out of the way - if I do my job right, you won't even know I'm there unless you need me. (I went to a wedding a few years ago and saw a photographer actually move a groomsman while they were at the altar... are you kidding me???)
If you need to get in touch with me, or would just like to chat, please feel free to email me at matt@mtharmon.com.
Thanks - enjoy the site, and please don't forget to sign my guestbook below!
